Gallery Absinthe will present Park Jung Hyuk’s solo exhibition 《Ordinary People》 starting Saturday, August 20. As suggested by the seven years of preparation behind 《Ordinary People》, the exhibition reflects the artist’s determined ambition to reframe the world through his own visual lens.

In his previous exhibition, especially in the video 3 Minutes 33 Seconds from the series subtitled family, the appeal of the puzzle rested in its predetermined rules—each piece finding its rightful place, generating a sense of personal accomplishment and a competitive desire to discover the correct solution faster than others. In contrast, his new video Ordinary People presented in this exhibition compiles scenes from more than fifty Eastern and Western films and dramas into five videos. Within these highly charged, condensed moments, viewers encounter painterly structures where human desires are restrained while the emotional atmosphere of each scene reaches its peak.
In this exhibition, the artist focuses on selecting and absorbing images disseminated through mass media, then disguising them as paintings reminiscent of historical group portraits. By doing so, he intentionally disorients viewers who have grown accustomed to media-saturated visual experiences, inviting them to confront a moment of cognitive and perceptual confusion.
