About The Work

Park Jung Hyuk’s second painting series, ‘Park’s Memory’, consists of oil paintings executed on silver-coated PET film. The artist views painting as a space where every possibility can unfold, yet has long felt that the traditional canvas—solid and object-like—often fixes the work too firmly, draining its vitality the moment it is completed. Seeking a more flexible and responsive surface, he turned to silver PET film.

This material carries a personal resonance for the artist. As a child, he often saw the same type of silver film used in his mother’s pharmacy to wrap medicine. It was a material associated with protecting what is valuable, yet it was also thin, lightweight, and highly sensitive to changes in its environment. These qualities naturally echo the instability, fragility, and sensory shifts that characterize memory itself.

Through ‘Park’s Memory’, the artist proposes a support that functions not merely as a backdrop but as an active participant in meaning-making. The film’s reflective and mutable surface prevents the image from settling into a fixed state, opening up a more dynamic sense of presence—an expanded expression of what painting can be.
